My Philosophy

I believe that people are doing the best they can  with the tools and experiences that they have. Life can be hard and sometimes can lead us to feeling overwhelmed or unsure about what direction we want/need to go. I believe that change and growth can happen at any age or stage of life. I once read a quote that said “If you find yourself stuck in a rut, remember the only way to get out is to take action.” (author unknown) Therapy is exactly that, action.

My approach to therapy is collaborative and  compassionate.  I view it as a journey that has endless possibilities. I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring both challenges and strengths. Using evidence-based practices we will work together to identify patterns that may no longer be serving you, while building new skills to foster greater self-awareness.

I approach therapy with enthusiastic compassion, bubbly humor, authenticity, and a belief in every person’s capacity for change. I understand how difficult it can be when looking for a therapist so let me congratulate you on taking the first step.

Shannon Riley
(LMHC-D, NCC)

Meet the Founder

I am a NYS Licensed Mental Health Counselor with Diagnostic Privilege. (LMHC-D) with more than 30 years experience working with children, families, and individuals in a wide variety of settings including non for profit organizations, community mental health clinic, school based clinics and private practice. I have had the honor of offering services to individuals and families who have experienced a wide variety of stressors and mental health conditions. I am a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NCC) and believe that professional development is key in providing the best possible care as the world is forever changing and the only way way to provide quality care is to change with it. I offer care in all of the most common evidence based treatment modality’s (i.e. CBT, DBT, Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing. Solution Focused Therapy) and others. Most recently my professional development includes working towards earning my certification as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), expanding my ability to support individuals and families affected by addiction and substance use.

My mission is to work with individuals with compassion, and authenticity; meeting individuals where they are at with honesty, empathy, and a bit of bubbly humor to help them find the best versions of themselves
